After three amazing days, Black Sea Tall Ships Regatta has reached to an end. Monday morning, there was the concluding conference of Black Sea Tall Ships Regatta SCF 2014, a major event that brought together 13 yachts from seven countries. The crews were made up of more than 1,000 people over 20 nationalities. In organizing the event were involved over 300 people, including volunteers from the Naval Academy”Mircea cel Batran", Navigator Yacht Club and Vega Hotel.
At start lined 13 sailing ships that have been last week-end in Port of Constanta: Class A - ”Sedov", ”Nadezhda", ”Mir", ”Akela”(Russia), ”Running on waves” (Malta), ”Royal Helena” (Bulgaria), ”Mircea” (Romania), ”Kaliakra” (Bulgaria); Class B - ”Johanna Lucretia” (United Kingdom), ”Atyla" (Spain), "Adornate" (Romania), ”Bodrum” (Turkey); Class C - ”Sea Adventure” (Bulgaria). ”Sedov” is the largest sailing yacht in the world with a length of 117.5 meters. School-ship ”Mircea” is a class A type bark tall ship, 44 meters high, with 23 sails totaling a sail area of 1,750 square meters. With a length of 45 meters, two-masted goeleta ”Adornate” can sail the seas for 70 days, is equipped with a powerful Cummins diesel engine of 380 horsepower and a 17,000 liter tank.

This competition’s terminus point was Port of Constanta, but its route included Varna (Bulgaria), Novorossiysk and Sochi (Russia).
The conference held on Monday was attended by Gabriel Comanescu, President of Navigator Yacht Club, Ph.D. Vergil Chitac, rector of the ”Mircea cel Batran", Academy Peter Newell, race director, and Robin Snouck-Hurgronje, representing Sail Training International. Gabriel Comanescu said: ”We are trying to bring the regatta next year in. I saw another side of Constanta, I saw a beautiful city".
Tall Ships Regatta in figures
According to Gabriel Comanescu , the event was a success both economically and in terms of number of visitors. So, on Saturday, 40,000 people were in Port of Constanta to visit the ships participating in the competition, but also to be present at concerts organized in the evening. Sunday, there were 50,000 visitors, and on Monday, 25,000. That means a total of 115,000 visitors. According to organizers, Black Sea Tall Ships Regatta SCF 2014 was the most important event in Constanta by 1989.
During this regatta, school-ship ”Mircea”was decorated by the Romania President Traian Basescu, Saturday, to celebrate the 75 years of service in the Romanian Navy . ”Mircea"’s log includes 11 marches in the Black Sea , visiting the main ports of the coastal states , 16 voyages in the Black Sea and 8 voyages in the Atlantic Ocean .
