Considering the decisions of environmental authorities in Constanta and Vaslui regarding the Chevron project in Romania, we inform the following:
"Chevron Company welcomes recent decisions taken by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in Constanta, respectively, Vaslui, regarding its projects in Romania.
Based on EPA Constanta respectively Vaslui decisions, Chevron Exploration and Production Romania will undertake only activities of exploration, involving the exclusive use of conventional technologies. In Constanta County, Chevron will conduct a study of two-dimensional 2D analysis of earth geophysics. Prospecting programs will avoid protected areas and ensure a distance of at least one kilometer from the Black Sea shore. In Vaslui County, Chevron will drill exploration wells similar to the other conventional wells existing in Romania. According to the technical documentation analyzed by EPA Vaslui, the exploration wells will not involve the use of hydraulic fracturing process.
Exploration phase of the gas deposits takes place over several years. Only based on the results obtained at this stage will determine, in cooperation and with the further agreement of the Romanian Government, the start of a mining operation. Each stage requires separate permits and authorizations issued by the Romanian authorities with responsibilities in the field.
Chevron has no intention to drill in cities and residential areas, near tourist and cultural attractions and protected areas. Chevron operates in full compliance with Romanian and European legislation and to the highest standards of safety and environmental protection, applied in oil and gas industry.
Chevron will continue to provide the public opinion, the local communities and authorities a dialogue supported by information regarding the performance of its projects. Chevron reiterates the commitment to be a responsible partner and to support Romania in its effort to evaluate the potential of the natural gas resources of clay, which can bring significant benefits to the country's energy security“.
