Gigi Becali has been freed

Gigi Becali is not in the custody of Directorate for Penal Research any more; tens of supporters have been waiting for him outside. Other "fans" have been waiting in the front of his house in Pipera

Gigi Becali has been freed today once the Bucharest Tribunal sustained his appeal for rehearing of the trial of dismissal, judged yesterday by the Court of Sector 1. According to some judicial sources, one of the three judges hearing the above mentioned appeal had a different opinion, and this is Dorin Matei, the president of the court of law.

Alexandru Chiciu, on of Becali's lawyers, stated that the decision of Bucharest Tribunal stood for a first step to a fair justice. The first instance passed over our motives, while the appeal instance sustained all the exceptions invoked by lawyers", he said.

Becali stated that he was not in the mood of making public statements, as he had just received the communion.

While leaving the custody, Gigi Becali thanked the media for all their support and he excused himself from making public statements, as he had just received the communion.

The financer of Steaua football team spoke to his supporters and to the media about his faith in God.

"First of all I would like to tell that this morning I have been visited by my confessor and I have received the communion. There is not much I could say, except one thing: I wish to thank all media trusts. I don't want anybody to be where I was, not even my worst enemy", he declared.

The court also granted the dismissal of Dumitru Beciu. As Becali, he was also given a set of interdictions, as not leaving Ilfov County and Bucharest without court approval. These two are by no means forbidden to contact other parts involved in this trial. They are not allowed to change their residence without court permission.

On Friday, Gigi Becali told to judges, at the beginning of the trial with the Bucharest Tribunal, that he truly wished to be dismissed so that he could spend the Easter with his family. "Your Honour, Mr President, I don't intend to say much, only one thing: I need my freedom in any acceptable way, even in the form of house arrest, just to be able to spend the Easter with my family and be enlightened by my children", Becali said, and he apologised from the president of the court of law, Dorel Matei, for what he had said during the session in which the Tribunal overruled his appeal for arresting decision.

On Thursday, Sector 1 Court decided to overrule Becali's request of dismissal under judicial control, but this decision was again appealed.

Gigi Becali was arrested by prosecutor on 2^nd of April, 13.00 hrs, according to Prosecutor's office attached to Buchares Tribunal, together with other four people.

Being accused of illegal deprivation of liberty. Gigi Becali was preventively arrested on 3^rd of April, by the magistrates of Sector 1 Court of Law.
