Wednesday, November 11, 2009, in the Hall of Prefecture, was brought into public debate the "Environment Report on Integrated Development Plan of the National Pole of steady growth Constanţa".

Although there weren't many people attending the meeting and they didn't seem too interested in the presentation, another step has been made so the Environment Notification for the Metropolitan Area can be obtained.

Ani Merlă, head of Programs and Development Department from the Town Hall, presented the analysis on environment condition from the Metropolitan Area.

"The purpose of this analysis is to identify the opportunity of applying the Integrated Development Plan of the National Pole of steady growth Constanţa", said Ani Merlă.

This environment report brought forward many problems, which Constanţa and the other localities from the Metropolitan Area are facing. Many other environment factors as air, water, soil and biodiversity have been analyzed and the results are quite alarming. We have serious problems with air contamination because of the bad management regarding domestic waste and emissions from traffic or big combustion equipments.

There are still uncontrolled domestic water overflows into the surface water, and, concerning the soil, there are relative wide areas which suffered degradation phenomenon. The cliff area is well known with erosion and ground slide problems.

Concerning the biodiversity, Ani Merlă said that this matter represented a more detailed debate because the law in this field and development necessity should be interdependent.

Among the objectives in protecting the environment there are: diminishing the contaminated emissions, restricting surface water pollution, restricting soil pollution and bringing up-to-date the infrastructure.

Besides these remarks, there is only one conclusion: not applying the Environment Report on Integrated Development Plan of the National Pole of steady growth Constanţa would be a negative thing, both for Constanţa and for the localities from the Metropolitan Area.
