"Queen Mary" frigate went on a mission (photo gallery)

Prime Minister of Romania, Victor Ponta, and Defence Minister, Mircea Dusa, attended Friday the departure ceremony of the "Queen Mary" frigate, which took place in the Military Port of Constanta. Moreover, the event was attended by the mayor of Constanta, Radu Stefan Mazăre and by local leaders.

According to official data, from October 1st to October 30th, the frigate will participate to Operation "Active Endeavour", under NATO command, in the Mediterranean. This is the fourth ship and the eighth participation of Romanian Naval Forces in the action of water and air traffic monitoring to combat illegal trafficking and asymmetric naval actions. The ceremony was attended by military officials, local officials, veterans, military and retired personnel and family members of the crew.
"Queen Mary" frigate has a displacement of 4,900 tons, its length is 148.2 meters, is 14.75 meters width and has a maximum draft of 6.4 meters. The ship can develop speeds up to 30 knots and has a range of 4,500 nautical miles. Propulsion is provided by four Rolls Royce turbines and the electrical systems on board are powered by four diesel generators of 1 MW each.
