Romanian Ombudsman requested an investigation about the evacuationof the Roma people in South Eforie and found that although the City Hall had the right documents, it was wrong in terms of human rights, said Friday for Mediafax Ombudsman Deputy, Ionel Oprea.
Ombudsman Deputy for Children, Family, Youth, Pensioners and Disabled People, Ionel Oprea, declared that following the news in the press saying that more than 100 people, including 55 children were left under the stars after their homes were destroyed, the Ombudsman took notice and conducted an investigation on the situation.
Based on the authorization granted by the Ombudsman, Constanta Field Office representative made Wednesday an investigation, establishing that the evacuees had received evictions.
"It was about 35 adults and 33 children of Roma origin. Among them, 14 families have children, four families don't have children and two people are single. Now, there are still houses undemolished and there live four families: 8 adults and 11 children", said Ionel Oprea, quoting the report concluded by the territorial representative.
Ombudsman Deputy also stated that after the demolition, due to the pressure of the media, representatives of the mayor have taken steps to accommodate families evicted in a school and in an old boarding school.
"They have minimum conditions for survival. The other days, they were provided running water and electricity", said the quoted source.
Representatives of the City Hall also said they plan investing and have the financing for the construction of social housing in the area evacuated.
