Who wants Mazare to be compared to (photo gallery)
Who wants Mazare to be compared to (photo gallery)As a result to his megalomania, Che, "el Commandante" Guevara, Fidel Castro, Al Capone and James Bond are only some famous characters that Mazăre has been idolising and comparing himself to. The mayor of Constanţa habituated us with his surprising but unoriginal appearances. Having no recognisable style of his own, Radu Mazăre has been borrowing, along the time, parts of famous personalities which left marks in the world history or which were made famous by the cinema.
He started as a Che Guevara revolutionary. We would see him taking part into events organised by him and we would expect to hear in any moment "Viva la revolución". It's possible that few of those who would wear Guevara cloths would know that he was a left wing revolutionary, leader of Cuba communist regime and South-American insurgent. What they adopted was the riot atmosphere. And so did Mazăre. The Che spirit might have helped him go on with his assiduous fight, only on a declarative plan, against the president Traian Băsescu.
The copying of the commandant (Che Guevara was called "el
comandante") does not stop here. Radu Mazăre has repeatedly stated that he is a
cigar fiend, that he prefers cigars for cigarettes and that he discovered the
Havana taste while a visit in Cuba. He naturally has a favourite brand:
Montecristo - made in Cuba.
El leader... Willys
From the rioter military dress up, Mazăre changed his
character, but not the register. The next target to copy: Fidel Castro. And his
passion for "el lider maximo" cost him something. "I was looking at some
pictures of Fidel Castro in Havana,
driving a Willys", said Mazăre, while relating how he became the owner of such
a Jeep. And the mayor may be seen driving his unusual car on the streets of the
city he proudly leads. And he has an entire army ready to fight Băsescu's
cat's-paws", he admitted. "If the election campaign had not finished, I would
have gone there dressed in army clothes, like Fidel Castro. This has been my dressing
trend for the last two years: fancier. Now I am thrilled ‘cause I bought a red
star cap from Viet Cong troupes in Vietnam, those who fought down the
Americans", declared the mayor for Playboy magazine.
Radu Bond or James Mazăre?!
He shifted from Che and Fidel to Al Capone and CCCP (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics). Because of his need of becoming more polished, Radu Mazăre made another spectacular appearance on his last year birthday (5th of July), at an exhibit of old cars, where he showed up dressed in a suit that looked after the famous gangster Al Capone. He proudly defiled in Mamaia square, for the audience. And this was just a rehearsal for what was to come: a true fashion show for the designer Mihaela Drafta. Not a regular show, but one that turned Mazăre into Bond, James Bond. Or, Radu, Radu Mazăre. As it was not fancy for him to say Mazăre, Radu Mazăre. This was not a secret agent-like name. Anyway, the mayor is constantly showing us that he is very erratic, but also good at reproducing other characters' wearing and behavioural styles. In the meantime, we will be waiting his next unexpected show off.
