In an interview for Q-Magazine, the Minister of Tourism has declared that she was threatened by some tourism businesspersons as she dared to suggest some ways of preventing and stopping illegal tourism.

The minister consider that these threats came in the context in which half of the most important businesspersons earned a lot of money from tourism by famous associations to the state in exploiting hotels across the country.

According to realitatea.net, the businesspersons told her straight to her face that if her project was put into practice, she would lose her position in less than ten days: "At that moment, I can tell you that I was told something like this ‘Lady, you were able to keep your presidential adviser position for 10 months, but here, if you do this, you won't last more than 10 days'. I think that 40%-50% from the money made from tourism is illegal, not accounted in the bookkeeping, and therefore not taxed. And we are not talking about one room renting businesses, but great hotels and restaurants", Elena Udrea stated.
