Mircea_Geoana_Nicusor_Constantinescu_02.jpgThe saying "So often the pitcher goes to the water until it breaks" proved to be so true for Constanţa County PSD [Social Democrat Party]. For Euro-parliamentary elections, the subsidiary didn't manage to intrude one of theirs on an eligible place, and this has triggered a chain of reactions.

The actions of the social-democrats on the Black Sea coast, for the local elections and the last year parliamentary elections, brought to Mazăre - Constantinescu team a lot of important positions for their people. Minister of the Environment, general secretary in the same ministry or state secretary with the Transports were some of the trophies of Constanţa PSD. It's just that they also wanted to own a Euro-parliament member for this year, in the person of former deputy Lucian Băluţ. Constanţa PSD demanded for him position no 8 or 10 on the list. Unfortunately, no 8 was attributed to the PC [Conservative Party] representative, while the tenth position was occupied by a member of Bucharest organisation.

The fact that the wish of Mazăre - Constantinescu team was not the command for PSD central leaders, who "dared" to put their option on the 17th place on the list of PSD+PC Alliance for Euro-parliamentary elections, caused a lot of grieve to these two local leaders.

Threats

The executive secretary of Constanţa County PSD organisation, Cristinel Dragomir, acknowledged that on 7th of Aprilie, a letters signed by the prime vice-president of Constanţa subsidiary, Nicuşor Constantinescu, arrived on the desk of the president of the party, Mircea Geoană. "Being unsatisfied by the decision taken by the central management, the County Permanent Office decided to withdraw Mr Băluţ, as position no 17 is not an eligible one",  Dragomir added. The local social-democrat leaders considered the assignment of a non-eligible position as a disregard of the whole Constanţa PSD subsidiary. According to "Cotidianul" [national newspaper] journalists, the letter to Geoană and the Permanent Office states that the reason for which Constanţa organisation is withdrawing from PSD euro-elections is the fact that the list has been made "against the national interest of PSD".

The executive secretary, Cristinel Dragomir, denied the withdrawal from the campaign prior to 7th of June elections.

"Anyhow, during the campaign, we will get involved and we want to have the best score to rebuke them", Dragomir said.

The signatory of the epistle, Nicuşor Constantinescu, motivated the withdrawal of Băluţ from the mentioned list, with the fact that regardless of their special attainments (49,95% with the parliamentary elections) and with the fact that he is well-known and appreciated by the electorate, all this being ignored by PSD leaders. "Although countless National Executive Committees ascertained as the only criterion of choosing PSD candidates is the election results, Constanţa County Organisation, the most powerful after that in Bucharest, gathering more than 160,000 votes, the recompense was no 17!!! If the national interest of PSD was followed, as 15 PSD county organisations attained more than 65% of the whole vote no of the party, these 15 subsidiaries should have nominated the first 15 candidates!!

Inexplicably, there were other ‘criteria' more important which worked against PSD national interest, which for the future will inevitably lead to poorer election results comparatively to the parliamentary elections in 2008, and these results are predicted to be inferior to PSD maximal potential", Constantinescu states in his epistle to Geoană

Geoană's reply

Contacted by the journalists with Cotidianul, the PSD president, Mircea Geoană, stated that the list for the European parliament may be still adjusted, and in the last meeting of the Executive Committee, those who voted were all the present representatives, and those from Constanţa were also there. "That's life, not everyone is given eligible positions! When the ministries were adjudicate, they were attributed the Ministry of the Environment",  Mircea Geoană replied, quoted by "Cotidianul".
