A delegation of the Democratic Union of the Muslim-Turkish Tatars in Romania led by President Gelil Eserghep participated this weekend in the Congress of Crimean Tatars, an event in which the new management of the forum was also appointed.
Refat Chubarov, who is also the current president of the World Congress of Tatars, and Remzi Ilyasov were the two candidates for the position of President of Mejlis, form of leadership of the Congress. With 126 votes, Refat Chubarov became the new chairman of the Crimean Tatars, whereas his opponent got 114. Chubarov becomes the new head of Mejlis after the position was held by Mustafa Abdulcemil Kirimoglu for 22 years.

"We wish Mr. Chubarov success and, on this occasion, we manifest our belief that he will carry on the projects initiated by Mr. Mustafa Abdulcemil Kirimoglu. As I have already conveyed my personal message, we also publicly assure him that he can rely on our support, that of the Tatars in Romania. We have many joint projects and we should not let them awaiting. They are projects aimed to support and promote the Tatar language and the traditional values both in Crimea and in Romania, as well as in other parts of the world where Tatars live. We must never forget that the core is in Crimea (Ukraine), but at the same time, we must consider a consolidation of the relationship with Tatars all over the world. Each of us, no matter what corner of the world we come from, have a very important role in preserving our traditional values and our community over the years", said President DUTMTR  Gelil Eserghep.

On the first day of the congress, President Gelil Eserghep also conveyed a message to the Crimean Tatars and handed out recognition plaques to Mustafa Abdulcemil Kirimoglu, Refat Chubarov and Ali Hamzin. Also at the beginning of the congress, the delegation of Romania shared scarves and badges with the Tatars’ symbols to all the delegates.
The Congress of Crimean Tatars took place in Simferopol, and was attended by 248 delegates from Crimea (Ukraine), as well as guests from Romania, Turkey, the USA, Germany, France, Sweden and Poland.

The delegation of Romania also included DUTMTR MP Varol Amet, DUTMTR senior vice president Samir Menan, DUTMTR vice president Nagi Gelal and Constanta county deputy prefect Iucsel Selamet.
