The Teodosie Code

The Holy Sinod have instituted a drastic disciplinary code meant to eliminate the scandals which make a fool out of the Orthodox Church, as the one triggered by the Tomis Archbishop. 

According to Radio România Actualităţi [Romanian Actualities Radio], the Sinod of Romanian Orthodox Church has adopted a code for financial and administrative discipline, in the context of the accusations addressed to His Holiness, Tomis Achibishop.

"This decision of the Holy Sinod wishes to strengthen what has always been characteristic for the church, that is clear settlement of real measurements when it comes to administrative and also financial indiscipline, according to church legislation and to civil legislation equally, on all levels", this was the reply of priest Constantin Stoica, spokesman of the Romanian Patriarchy, when asked if the new code might prevent such situations.

"It's clear that, when such indiscipline cases show, the image of the church is spoiled, and we know very well that mass media are helping the church, emphasising such cases. In these situations, the due measurements are taken and it would be nice that the church servants who do not wish to respect, first of all, the church order and the administrative and financial church, should remember that the church cannot possibly tolerate such situations", said the Patriarchy representative, quoted by Radio România Actualităţi. In his turn, the spokesman of Tomis Archbishoprics, priest Eugen Tănăsescu, says that he has not been informed about this issue and this code was adopted as a consequence to many indiscipline actions within the church environment, and not because of the accusations of His Holiness Teodosie. "This might be a mass media intoxication. Officially, we haven't received any information. Adopting this code was talked over before the accusations against Tomis Archbishop. I consider that this measure has been taken as a follow to several irregularities, as the cases of  Tanacu, Petru Vodă or Corneanu", said the priest Tănăsescu. We should remind you that His Holiness Teodosie, Tomis Archbishop, is the first orthodox church clerk in the history of the Romanian Orthodox Church which is criminally investigated. He was accused of receiving money and presents to help a journalist become a priest.
