Iacob-Ridzi awarded former Constanta gloriesAlthough they had been announced for the meeting of the activity analysis of DSJ [County Direction of Sports] and CS [Sports Club] Farul, for year 2008, the state secretary with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Octavian Belu and presidential councillor Mariana Bitang did not come to Constanţa, the only one who honoured the invitation was the minister Monica Iacob-Ridzi.
Next to DSJ and SC Farul leaders, in the conference room of Ibis Hotel, there were also present emeritus trainers, performance sportsmen, and traditional partners, representatives of sports federations, local administrations, rural municipalities, Constanţa universities, school inspectorate, police, gendarmerie, firemen, youth and public health directions. The event started with a short memorial for Claudiu Gabriel Bujin, former athlete of Farul Sports Club, defeated by cancer last month.
There were also awarded former
glories of Constanţa
sports, as part of the project "Să ne amintim de ei" [Remember them] initiated 2 years ago by Constanţa DSJ. Among
them, there were Carmen Marinescu - former volleyball player with CS Farul and with
Romanian national team, the best lifter in Constanţa, presently teacher of
physical education and sports at School no 22, veteran athletes Veronica
Negreanu, Lucian Borcescu and Paul Constantin Lazăr, Alexe Ciocănel - former
president of gymnastics section and having many other administrative titles with CS Farul -, Ismet Akseit Omer, teacher of
physical education with Cobadin Vocational School, promoter of sports in the
rural areas. There were also awarded the athletes of SC Farul, Anca Heltne and
Nicoleta Grasu, the last one gold medalled for shot putting with European Cup.
The former head of the national team, Gheorghe Hagi, was awarded by DSJ the
diploma of Excellency for founding the first football academy in the county. Next
on the agenda there was the account of the president of SC Farul, Ilie Floroiu,
of the balance sheet for year 2008.
Although 85 years old, Traian Petcu is still running
Within the project „Să ne amintim de ei", it was also congratulated the oldest Constanţa athlete, Traian Petcu, who, being more than 80 years old, is still participating to cross race, within his age category, of course. After winning Pitesti National Cross Race, the advanced racer finished the contest in the first rank in 15th edition of Sovata Spring Cross, organised by Mureş County Sports Direction and the local municipality. Petcu ran four kilometres, having no one to defeat him in the +80 age section.
